Every winter, Amsterdam Light Festival transforms the city into an open-air gallery of light<\/strong>. International artists create spectacular installations along, above and even on the canals, bringing contemporary art together with Amsterdam\u2019s historic waterways.<\/p>\n Amsterdam Light Festival 2026 marks Edition 15<\/strong>, featuring around 20 light artworks along a 5-kilometre route through the city. But the experience goes beyond the artworks themselves: illuminated bridges, canal houses, houseboats and reflections on the water make Amsterdam itself part of the exhibition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n of Amsterdam Light Festival began on the water.<\/a> In 2009<\/strong>, Rederij de Nederlanden, Rederij Prinsengracht<\/a> and Canal Company were among the creative forces behind the Christmas Canal Parade<\/strong>, with illuminated boats sailing together through Amsterdam\u2019s canals.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In 2010<\/strong>, the parade became part of Winter Magic Amsterdam<\/strong>, where light also started appearing around the city, including the illumination of the iconic Skinny Bridge.
