Walking around Amsterdam Centraal, the Captain saw us and said "Hey, care to join us for a canal cruise?" We were looking to do a cruise anyway, but I had to use the bathroom first, which I expressed to the Captain. He said, "We've got a toilet onboard - cleanest of all the boats in Amsterdam." SOLD. And, for the love of all the pancakes and herring in the city, he was right. Not only this, but this was a seriously pretty boat - with long blue velour upholstered benches and sewing-style tables at various intervals. This made it more homey and more open than the other boats out there - as far as we could tell. We had a serenely comfortable, intimate cruise. The Captain was funny yet professional, and the attendant, Jule, was so sweet and helpful - curious too about the backgrounds of her guests. As we are American, she shared her experiences when she visited the US. Jule thinks she needs work on her English, but she's better than most native speakers - with the finesse of a diplomat - right Arizona (she'll get the reference).
